چکیده

This article presents a method to jointly estimate phase and data from a convolutionally coded binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) signal with random phase noise and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). The joint receiver–decoder successfully decodes fully suppressed carrier signals in harsh phase-noise environments. A complete description is given of the software implementation, including the generation of statistically accurate phase-noise samples. Numerical results are given for the NASA standard (7,1/2) convolutional code and frequency-flicker-dominated phase noise. For phase-noise levels of −10.58, −1.55, and 7.48 dB rad /Hz at a 1-Hz offset, a data rate of 40 b/s, and a bit-error rate (BER) of 0.01, the joint receiver–decoder saves 3 to 4.25 dB of power over a nonjoint approach.

Maximum Likelihood Detection of Symbolic Dynamics in Communication Systems with Chaos Shift Keying

Abstract— The paper describes the application of the Viterbi algorithm in the implmentation of a maximum likelihood receiver in a chaos communication scheme. The Viterbi decoder is constructed based on a symbolic state representation of the transmitter’s chaos generator. The presented simulation results show that the classical Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation scheme can be slightly o...

Space-time overlays for convolutionally coded systems

In this paper, we consider the design of space–time overlays to upgrade single-antenna wireless communication systems to efficiently accommodate multiple transmit antennas. We define the overlay constraint such that the signal transmitted from the first antenna in the upgraded system is the same as that in the single-antenna system. The signals transmitted from the remaining antennas are design...

We compare OFDM-BPSK wireless communication systems ba...

A Bandwidth Efficient Pilot Symbol Technique for Coherent Detection of Turbo (Codes over Fading Channels*

A method is proposed to implement coherent detect ion of turbo coded binary phase shift keying (BPSK) signals transmitted over frequency-fiat Rayleigh fading channels. After turbo encoding, a subset of the parity symbols is punctured and replaced with known pilot symbols. Because the pilot symbols replace existing pamity symbols, no bandwidth expansion is required. However, there is a restricti...
